Guided Alaska freshwater fishing excursions are the perfect trip for both dyed-in-the-wool freshwater fishing fanatics, as well as tried and true saltwater fishermen looking to put the icing on the cake of a great fishing trip. Whether with spin gear or your fly rod, Ketchikan’s lakes
and rivers offer some of the finest freshwater experiences around.
Our guides are not only skilled at knowing the area and where to go to find fish, they absolutely love to fish themselves! This puts them in the unique position of understanding all the components of a first-class Alaska fishing trip including gear, comfort, safety, and of course, those special little spots in our rivers and lake where salmon and trout are
hiding. |

Freshwater trips at Clover Pass Resort start even before you arrive in Ketchikan. We’ll put you in touch with your guide so that you can discuss what kind of fish you are interested in, the kind of gear that is provided, and what you will want to include if you choose to bring your own gear. The guide will also use that opportunity to find out about your fishing skills and experience and well as your physical fitness. All of this information will help him choose the perfect Alaskan lake or river for a comfortable and successful outing.
Your day of fishing will begin as you step aboard a DeHavilland Beaver, piloted by one of Ketchikan’s most experienced bush pilots. The trip to the fishing grounds is bound to be one of the highlights of your trip, as the airplane passes through some of the world’s most scenic and pristine areas.
Daily destinations are chosen based upon your fishing interests, your skill level, your physical fitness, and fishing and weather conditions.
Whenever possible, your guide will find a spot unoccupied by other anglers, allowing you to soak up your own piece of paradise and solitude.
Once you are set up and ready to fish your guide will be happy to provide instruction, including casting lessons, and give you the “lay of the land”. Feel free to use the guide as much, or as little, as you like in order to make it a perfect day finding the “big one”!

In cases of inclement weather, our guides have access to areas accessible by boat via saltwater and a short hike, instead of using airplane transportation.
Due to uneven terrain and other factors, our guided freshwater excursions are more physically demanding than our saltwater trips. We recommend those wishing to embark on a freshwater fishing adventure be in good physical condition.
In order to perpetuate phenomenal fishing for future anglers, Clover Pass Resort’s freshwater guides promote catch and release, although your guide will be happy to prepare a shore-side lunch from your catch if requested. Our guides are licensed and insured. We supply rain jackets as well as the necessary safety equipment and fishing gear, which includes flies, spinners, fly rod (or spin casting rod), and Gore-Tex waders on all of our guided Alaskan freshwater fishing trips.
